Lecture and clinical sessions provide an in-depth study of dental sealants. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the participant will be qualified to legally apply sealants in NH. The student will take the didactic, place sealants on extracted teeth and models and then place sealants under the supervision of their dentist.*

*If COVID protocols approve LIVE patients, students will be notified.

Note:  This course is not required for Dental Assistant Graduates from ADA Accredited Programs; Course is not appropriate for RDH).

Online portion: September 30 - October 15, 2022 (Must be completed prior to attending clinical portion)

Clinical Portion (AT NHTI): Saturday, October 15, 2022 -  8:30 am to 5:30 pm

Prerequisites and required documents:

  • ADA Graduate Dental Assistant or proof of completion of POI and ICP courses (submit certificates)

Temporary Crown & Bridge Fabrication

This training qualifies the dental assistant, according to the NH Board of Dental Examiners’ regulations.  The focus is on techniques and materials used in temporary fabrication, finishing margins, and duplicating tooth anatomy. Participants will create temporary crowns and bridges on typodonts only.

 

Session 1 - Online: September 10 - 24, 2022

                 Clinical portion - on NHTI campus - September 24, 2022

Session 2 - Online: October 8 - 22, 2022

ADA Graduate Dental Assistant or  Completion of the POI and ICP courses at NHTI

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. This class requires: 2 surgical masks, safety glasses, face shield, latex free gloves, scrubs, and a lab jacket

Required materials:

  • Two models of a tooth before and after crown preparation (before case goes to the lab)
  • Impression trays
  • Material for 10 impressions & temporaries.

No impression material will be provided.  

 

 

 

Techniques in Dental Radiology for Dental Assistants (Hybrid) (12857)

On-line lectures and learning activities are coordinated with laboratory practice to develop dental radiographic techniques. Students are required to schedule two clients. Techniques covered include: digital radiography, processing, mounting and evaluating films. Emphasis placed on client and operator protection, exposure and processing errors, asepsis protocol, radiographic techniques and equipment function. Following this course, passing of RHS portion of DANB exam is required according to NH law. NOTE: This course does not meet the radiology course requirements for the NHTI Dental Assisting or Dental Hygiene programs.

Online portion: *October 10 - December 2, 2022

*Students are responsible for online coursework the week of October 10th and need to have it completed each week.  Be sure to log in on the first day to begin the class.

Due to the intensity and stringent NH Board of Dental Examiners rules regarding this course, it is imperative that all course requirements and commitments are met to ensure successful completion of this class.  No extensions can be given, coursework through CANVAS must be completed on time, and all in-person clinical sessions must be completed at the time they are offered in order to meet State requirements and receive a certificate.  Any variation from expectations will result in a “did not complete” grade. Please make sure you log in to CANVAS on the start date of class.

Description: This covers the Introduction to Dental Assisting in 302.06. With online and hands-on components, this course prepares dental assistants to perform a preliminary oral inspection on patients and includes taking medical/dental histories, obtaining/reading vital signs, basic oral anatomy and terminology, and dental charting. Participants must complete assignments online prior to clinical portion.
