Out with the Old, In with the New: The New Periodontal Classification System

This course will review the new Periodontal Classification System established by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP). The new classification involves some significant changes, including a new system for staging and grading periodontitis, the modification and/or elimination of certain concepts and, introduces a classification for peri-implant diseases and conditions. Topics covered in this course will include the following: The main categories within the new classification system; Differences between the current classification and the previous classification system; Rationale and evidence to support the new staging and grading, and how to classify your patients. This course will review content in lecture format with clinical discussion and case studies for practical application.

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. This class requires: a face mask.

Infection Control in Alternative Dental Settings

This required course reviews infection control procedures through lecture and clinical activities. Dental hygienists learn the latest protocols for proper asepsis in non-traditional settings and are strongly encouraged to bring a portable dental unit.

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. This class requires: A surgical masks, face shields, scrubs, and a lab jacket.

Temporary Crown & Bridge Fabrication

This training qualifies the dental assistant, according to the NH Board of Dental Examiners’ regulations.  The focus is on techniques and materials used in temporary fabrication, finishing margins, and duplicating tooth anatomy. Participants will create temporary crowns and bridges on typodonts only.

Hours: 8

Prerequisites and required documents:
ADA Graduate Dental Assistant or  Completion of the POI and ICP courses at NHTI

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. This class requires: 2 surgical masks, face shield gloves, scrubs, and a lab jacket

Required materials:
-Two (2) models of the same tooth, one before the prep was done, and one after the prep was done. (Both models need to have the soft tissue around the prep.)

-Impression material and temporary crown material used in your office for 5-6 impressions.  No impression material will be provided.
