Carpentry-Part 1

Construction Technology-Part 1 will introduce students to the carpentry/construction trades including safety; construction math; hand and power tools; construction drawings, specifications, and layout; basic rigging; materials handling; building materials, fasteners, and adhesives; heavy construction equipment; and constructing a basic stair layout. This course provides the basic skills that contractors are looking for as they hire for their entry-level construction positions. Students will also earn industry recognized credentials in OSHA-10, Confined Spaces, First Aid/CPR/AED, and Fall Protection. Upon successful completion of Part 1, students can then move on to Part 2 and Part 3 to continue to build their skills.

Depending on your goals and options, we offer two sections for this course that run concurrently:

Carpentry Apprenticeship Program Part 1 - If you are intersested in enrolling into an apprenticeship with a local construction company then please email apprenticeshipusanh@ccsnh.edu for more details.

Carpentry Advanced Skills Program Part 1 - If you are not looking for an apprenticeship or your employer of choice does not offer an apprenticeship program then you can join this open enrollment section by clicking on the yellow 'Register' button within this listing.

Class Dates: September 2 - Decemeber 23, 2025

Days/Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-8pm at the NHTI Campus; Field trips one Saturday per month TBD.

  • Toolbox Talk Presentation
  • Basic Employability Skills
  • Intro to Materials Handling
  • Building Materials, Fasteners, and Adhesives
  • Intro to Heavy Construction Equipment
  • Basic Stair Layout
  • Confined Space
  • Mobile Elevated Roof Platforms
  • Fall Protection

Personal protective equipment: You will need to have the following for the workshop portion of the course.

  • eye protection
  • work gloves
  • high-top safety shoes
  • hearing protection
  • hard hat
