Eligibility

To be eligible for this program, students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid NH Driver License
  • Have a CDL Learner’s Permit - required to register for class; otherwise a copy of your driver record may be required to enroll

Additional Student Responsibilities:

  • Complete and pass DOT Physical Exam; valid Medical Card on file with DMV
  • Complete Drug & Alcohol Screen
  • Enroll in random drug & alcohol testing program
  • Enroll in FMCSA Clearing House as student

Please note the following:

To gain employment in this field, applicants must not have any alcohol-related or major driving offenses during the previous two years on both civilian and military licenses. The Division of Motor Vehicles reserves the right to disqualify applicants based on information obtained during the application process. Employers may have additional requirements.

It is recommended that you schedule a non-regulated drug screen ($70) from On-Site Drug Testing (56 Old Suncook Road in Concord; 603-226-3858) if you have used recreational drugs at any time within the last year. This will verify that any trace of substances has cleared your system (some can stay in the system for as long as six months or more).  This will ensure that when you get tested prior to range and road, you will be able to continue with the program.  If you were to get tested prior to range and road and the results were positive, then it would be in your record, and it will prevent you from completing the training and will remain on your record forever which will impede your ability to continue in the career field.

Program Cost

The $9,150 includes training tuition only for theory, range, road, one state test session with instructor and tractor trailer provided.

Students will be required to pay for the following to the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles and the New Hampshire Department of Safety, for your enrollment records, permit(s) and applicable test(s):

  • Copy of Learner's Permit: $20
  • Complete and pass DOT Physical Exam; valid Medical Card on file with DMV: Cost Varies (est. $100)
  • Drug & Alcohol Screen: Cost Varies (est. $100)
  • If chosen for a random drug and alcohol screen: Cost Varies
  • State re-test fee with Patten's Driving School: $450

This program is WIOA and SNAP E&T eligible.

NHTI is proud to partner with Patten's Commercial Driver Training.
