This course prepares dental assistants and dental hygienists to monitor nitrous oxide use during dental procedures. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will meet the qualifications stipulated by the NH Board of Dental Examiners.
Online portion: Must be completed prior to attending clinical portion.
Online portion from February 23 - March 8, 2025
In person at NHTI - March 8, 2025 from 8:30am - 1:30pm

Prerequisites: RDH, ADA Graduate Dental Assistant or proof of completion of POI and ICP courses. (Must submit certificates.)

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. This class requires a face mask.

About the instructors:
Professor Katrina Magee RDH, CPHDH, MSDH
Katrina Magee attended West Virginia University for her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and Old Dominion University for her Master of Science in Dental Hygiene. She earned her Certified Public Health Certification from NHTI. She has taught at Old Dominion University in Virginia, Idaho State University, and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She has been teaching full-time at NHTI since 2004. Professor Magee has practiced in various settings throughout the country including private practice, state prisons, schools, Indian reservations, youth centers, and long-term care.
Katrina has taught several dental hygiene courses throughout her years in education. Currently she is the Dental Hygiene Community Clinic Coordinator and teaches community dental health theory, preventive oral health strategies, research methodologies, evidence-based dentistry, educational theory, service-learning, oral histology, head and neck anatomy, administration of local anesthesia and the administration of nitrous oxide sedation. In addition, she is involved in clinical teaching on site and off-site in alternative public health settings.
Through the years she has been recognized for her community outreach and excellence in teaching. She has received the Excellence in Education and Service Award from NHTI, the Excellence in Clinical Teaching, and the Teacher of the Year Awards from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine and the G.W. Hirshfield Academic and Community Service Award from Old Dominion University.
