With online and hands-on components, course topics include barrier techniques, limiting contamination, hand washing, handling of sharps, sterilization, disinfection, and disposal of waste materials. Participants must complete assignments online prior to clinical portion.
Students normally take Infection Control Practice and Preliminary Oral Inspection at the same time, same session as these classes are prerequisites for our other dental classes.
We have two convenient offerings for this class to fit into your busy schedule.
Session 1 - (CRN 22222) - Online: 1/4/25 - 1/18/25 (Margaret McManus, Jennifer Pearl, and Elizabeth Brown)
Clinical: NHTI campus - 1/18/25 - 8:30am - 12:30pm
Session 2 - (CRN 22350) - Online: 2/1/25 - 2/15/25 (Margaret McManus and Elizabeth Brown)
Clinical: NHTI campus - 2/15/25 - 8:30am - 12:30pm
Please note:
- Course not designed to meet annual OSHA training requirement.
- Course not required for dental assistant graduates from ADA accredited programs.

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: Students must provide their own PPE. Required PPE includes 2 surgical masks, N95, safety shield, gloves, scrubs, and a lab jacket.
About the instructor:
Margaret McManus earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of New Hampshire in 2018 and her degree in Dental Hygiene from NHTI in 2021. She is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a focus on leadership at Southern New Hampshire University. Margaret worked as a traditionally trained dental assistant until 2020 and now works as a clinical dental hygienist in private practice, where she also supports new hires through the onboarding and training process.
