Administration of Local Anesthesia (30955)

with Katrina Magee & Dr. John Girald

$1,500

Offered as a rolling admission throughout the semester.

Course lectures for this introductory study of the concepts and techniques of delivering intraoral anesthesia are provided online and coordinated with clinical practice. Emphasis is on the prediction and prevention of medical complications. Curriculum includes head and neck anatomy, armamentarium, pharmacology, neurophysiology, patient evaluation and management, record keeping and risk management.

The goal is to safely select and administer adequate local anesthesia for use in painless periodontal treatment. Course consists of 24 lecture hours and 24 clinical hours in which students practice injection techniques under the supervision of a NH-licensed dentist and qualified dental hygienist. Upon successful completion of the course, the ADEX exam, and obtaining a NH permit, hygienists will be qualified to administer local anesthesia according to NH law.

This is a hybrid course with self-paced online modules. The modules can be completed early on or spread out during the time remaining from the date of registration. The clinical portion would be scheduled with the instructor to join an on campus lab currently in progress with the Dental Hygiene students.

Course Dates: Offered throughout the Summer semester between May 18, 2025 and July 17, 2025 as needed per student.

Online: Self-paced modules to be completed during the semester dates above.

Clinicals: To be scheduled with the instructor during the semester dates above at the NHTI campus.
