This course introduces students to the fundamentals of landscape management. Over five weeks, participants will learn essential concepts including plant care, soil health, turf management, and plant identification, while gaining an understanding of how environmental and site conditions influence maintenance decisions. Each class will include hands-on learning to build practical skills in the areas covered. The program also emphasizes workplace professionalism, including effective client and team communication. The course concludes with a comprehensive property evaluation and assessment to identify landscape management practices that support healthy, functional, and well-maintained outdoor spaces. 

This class does not take the place of the NH Certified Landscape Professional certification but introduces several of the topics covered more in depth in the NHCLP program.

Class Dates: July 8 - August 5, 2026

Days/Times: Wednesdays, from 5:00pm - 8:00pm  at the NHTI Campus.  Sweeney Hall, Room 311 and outdoor locations for hands-on training.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Intro to Landscape Maintenance and Plants
  • Planting and Soils
  • Turf Establishment and Maintenance
  • Plants Identification and Maintenance
  • Site Assessment and Professionalism

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this training, students will:

  • Understand the scope of landscape maintenance work
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks safely and effectively
  • Recognize plants, turf, and site conditions
  • Apply seasonal and site-based decision-makingDemonstrate professionalism on job sites

Personal protective equipment: You will need to have the following for the hands-on portion of the course:

  • Eye protection
  • Work gloves
  • Safety shoes
  • Hearing protection
  • Hard hat
